The Scribe's Portion

About TSP-Why Do I Write?

Painters paint, musicians create music, teachers teach, athletes play sports, and writers…write. But writing for the sake of writing is not the mission of this website. If it were so, I would have looked for another medium to express my passion. The Internet will never run out of writers to write. Nor will the Internet run out of readers to read. Many blogs and magazines already exist- in fact, many CHRISTIAN blogs are already in existence. But, I don’t even write because I love to write nor because I can. I write because writing is my worship to the God I serve, to the God I love, to the God I live for and this website is my obedient response to His will in my life and the lives of those who choose to join me. Writing is a ministry, and if the Creator of the Universe has commanded me to pick up my pen for His glory, I will do exactly that.

My heart is overflowing with Good News; I speak what I have composed to the King; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe. -Psalm 45:1

How Was TSP Born?

I started my first blog on Weebly titled, “The King’s Daughter” where I shared poems and devotions. I had no definite goal other than to simply share my writings with whoever cared to read them. In late 2015, I started another blog titled, “Redeeming Chanan” where I shared poems, devotions, book reviews, and articles on Christian living. I desired to be a “voice in the wilderness” (Isaiah 40:3, Mark 1:3, John 1:23but God told me, “not yet.” The past year has been one full of trials and tests- of me struggling and fighting the fear of putting myself out in the public. And trust me, dear reader, it was NOT easy but it was harder still to ignore His urging. Anxiety and fear are my greatest foes but little by little, my Father has been helping me overcome them (I’m excited to share my journey with you!) After much prayer, asking my Father for confirmations- He brought calm and peace into my heart. He let me know that it was time to start this writing ministry. And it was as simple as that… He called and I listened.

What Does The Scribe’s Portion Mean?

A scribe in ancient times was a secretary who was in charge of transcribing legal and religious documents. In new testament times, the scribe had become religiously knowledgeable, given a priestly role, and even served as part of the Sanhedrin. But the role of the scribe was essentially to be the transmitter of the Law, the transcriber of words, the writer; his role was extremely important. My desire is to be nothing less and nothing more but God’s scribe; to be that pen in the hand of God.

In the Old Testament, “portion” is used to describe a share of a meal, a part of a sacrifice, or an inheritance. But in Psalms and Lamentations, it is used to describe God as our ultimate inheritance.

The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup. -Psalm 16:5

My flesh and my heart faileth; but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever. -Psalm 73:26

Thou art my portion, O LORD; I have said that I would keep thy words. -Psalm 119:57

The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him. -Lamentations 3:24

I am simply God’s scribe, bringing you His portion. This is a bridge, an instrument that through this small space, His precious holy Name may be glorified. My writing is not my own, His words, I simply transcribe. I write that it may be a divine cause with an eternal effect.  I’m humbled and blessed with this platform to worship Him. I pray you may find encouragement, inspiration, and fellowship. Amen!
