So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. ~Romans 10:17

Sunday and Wednesday services are great but sometimes our souls hunger for more spiritual food. After all, do we only eat twice a week? Of course not, we’d starve to death! I often listen to full sermons or clips to feed upon the Word of God while being powerfully proclaimed. Besides our daily Bible portions, listening to sermons online completes a well-rounded meal.

I enjoy sermons that convict me to repent and devote myself more fully to the Lord. And that’s what sermons are supposed to do; shake us out of our comfortable Christian lives. A sermon which only causes lovely-feel-good- feelings is no good. We need a strong message preached with the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Here I’m sharing 7 powerful sermons I recommend you listen to. Put aside any preconceived ideas you may have about the preachers and focus on the message. Leave your theology aside and allow the Holy Spirit to break through denominational barriers and convict you. You will not be the same after hearing these messages.

By the way, these are just in alphabetical order, not by best.

7 Powerful Sermons You Need to Listen

“A Call to Anguish” by David Wilkerson

This is a powerfully convicting sermon about God’s call to a deeper life of devotion and prayer. This sermon is not for itching ears nor for those who don’t wish to be shaken out of a life of conformity. The late Rev. Wilkerson was known for preaching the sound Word of God. He was a true anointed servant of God and man of prayer. You cannot listen to this sermon and not fall weeping to your knees. It will urge you to ask the Lord to revive your Spiritual life and recommit to a life fully dependant upon God. This is a strong call to a life of fervent prayer.

“I look at the whole religious scene today and all I see are the inventions of ministries of man and flesh. It’s mostly powerless. It has no impact on the world. And I see more of the world coming into the church and impacting the church rather than the church impacting the world. I see the music taking over the house of God. I see entertainment taking over the house of God … an obsession with entertainment in God’s house, a hatred of correction, and a hatred of reproof. Nobody wants to hear it anymore.”

“Brokenness” by Voddie Baucham

A very convicting sermon about brokenness. In these times of Spiritual laxity and apostacy, few are those who long for brokenness. Pastor Voddie preaches that brokenness is necessary for our spiritual life. It is the response to sin. Brokenness is more than just guilt and “feeling bad” it’s what prompts us, moves us to repentance and CHANGE. Anyone can feel guilty, even non-believers, but brokenness can only be brought by the Holy Spirit. Our desire shouldn’t be to forget our sins, because “without the memory of sin there would be no testimony. ” Listen here.

“Do Not Grieve the Holy Spirit” by Carter Conlon

We don’t hear this message often but it’s very important! This is a clear warning against grieving the Holy Spirit. It’s so easy to push away the guidance of the Holy Spirit and replace it with human reason and knowledge. In this crucial message, Pastor Conlon exhorts the believer to never put human reasoning above the Word of God and its guidance. Because once we replace Him with our own thoughts, we lose His conviction, His guiding voice, and become hardened. Don’t cut off your connection with God! Once He is grieved, we are left alone to fend for ourselves. Preached from Ephesians 4. Listen here.

“Examine Yourself” by Paul Washer

This powerful sermon is based on 2 Corinthians 13:5 and will make you analyze your life. Paul Washer is known for his emphasis on living a genuine Christian life through holiness and sold out devotion to God. How do you know you’re truly saved? Is it because you said a prayer when you were 5? Or because you’ve gone to church your whole life? Paul Washer challenges you to examine your spiritual fruit and find out if you’re truly saved. Attending church doesn’t make you a Christian nor saying a prayer. A follower of Christ is evidenced by your inward change as it pours out from within. “By their fruits, they shall be known…” Listen here.

“How Satan Gets Into Your Head” by Dr. Charles A. Stewart

“You are what you think.” This message transcends all time periods because as humans, we are easily lead and controlled by feelings if we are not careful. The enemy takes advantage of our feelings and emotions to manipulate and control us. If we are not vigilant and continually surrender ourselves to God, we become slaves to the schemes of the enemy. This is a wake-up call to be watchful against the darts of the enemy and submit our minds to the Word of God. Listen here.

“No Man is Greater Than His Prayer Life” by Leonard Ravenhill

When I think about the words epic and classic this sermon by evangelist Leonard Ravenhill comes to mind. Many sermons have been preached with fire, tears, brokenness, and passion but this sermon has it all. Mr. Ravenhill exhorts the complacent sheep to break down and seek the face of God. It’s an urgent call to daily prayer- genuine communion with the Lord. You cannot win a spiritual battle without prayer and you cannot be a mighty warrior of God without seeking the Presence of God daily. You will be shaken out of your seat to spend more time in prayer, no matter how much or how little you pray now. Listen here.

“No man is greater than his prayer life. The pastor who is not praying is playing; the people who are not praying are straying. We have many organizers, but few agonizers; many players and payers, few pray-ers; many singers, few clingers; lots of pastors, few wrestlers; many fears, few tears; much fashion, little passion; many interferers, few intercessors; many writers, but few fighters. Failing here, we fail everywhere.”

“Through Repentance to Faith” by Derek Prince

You cannot have full faith without repentance. In this age of unrepentance, this message could not have been more relevant. Preachers do not preach repentance anymore because they don’t want to “scare off” the flock. Truth is, without repentance we cannot see the face of God one day. There is no salvation without repentance. Our Christian foundation starts with repentance, which without, our “faith” will crumble. Pastor Derek Prince delivers a timely sermon on the importance of repentance unto faith. It is essential for our daily walk of faith. This sermon is not meant to move your emotions but to stir up your spirit to get right with God and leave your sins behind and “sin no more.” Listen here.
